STARGATE SG-1
Earth stargate (found near Giza in 1928) is housed in a top-secret U.S. military base known as the SGC (Stargate Command) underneath Cheyenne Mountain. Col. Jack O'Neill (R. D. Anderson), Dr. Daniel Jackson (Shanks), Capt. Samantha Carter (Tapping) and Teal'c (Judge) compose the original SG-1 team (a few characters join and/or leave the team in later seasons). Along with 24 other SG teams, they venture to distant planets exploring the galaxy and searching for defenses from the Goa'uld, in the forms of technology and alliances with friendly advanced races.
The parasitic Goa'uld use advanced technology to cast themselves as Egyptian Gods and are bent on galactic conquest and eternal worship. Throughout the first eight seasons, the Goa'uld are the primary antagonists. They are a race of highly intelligent, ruthless snake-like alien parasites capable of invading and controlling the bodies of other species, including humans. The original arch-enemy from this race was the System Lord Apophis (Peter Williams). Other System Lords, such as Baal and Anubis, play pivotal roles in the later seasons. In the ninth season a new villain emerges, the Ori. The Ori are advanced beings with unfathomable technology from another galaxy, also bent on galactic conquest and eternal worship. The introduction of the Ori accompanies a departure from the primary focus on Egyptian mythology into an exploration of the Arthurian mythology surrounding the Ori, their followers, and their enemies — the Ancients.
Stargate SG-1 was one of the best Sci Fi TV shows and ended after 10 years of production - 1997 - 2007.
2. BSG
BATTLESTAR GALACTICA
Battlestar Galactica continues on from the 2003 mini-series to chronicle the journey of the last surviving humans from the Twelve Colonies of Man after their nuclear annihilation by the Cylons.
The remake to top all remakes (original release year 1978) - this time around Starbuck is a woman and the FX are eerily realistic. Toss in a soundtrack that evokes the sparseness of space, highly original sets, genuine human drama and some purely paranoid plot twists and it's easy to see why this show has so many fans. Began life as a two-part miniseries.
SCI FI Channel confirmed on March 22, 2007 that the show has been renewed for a fourth season of 22 episodes, an increase from the previously announced 13 episodes.
Battlestar Galactica runs from 2003 and has a huge fan base.
3. SGA
STARGATE ATLANTIS
Stargate Atlantis is a spin-off from the popular Stargate SG1 series in which a search for the Lost City of the Ancients has uncovered Atlantis and its Stargate to another galaxy. There's new technologies, new allies and a dreaded new enemy - Wraiths.
SGA team under command Dr. Weir's command (Samantha Carter from Stargate Atlantis Season 4) explore Galaxy Pegasus and fights against Wraith and other enemies of human race.
Excellent actors, humor and artefacts in eternal Science Fiction scheme.
Stargate Atlantis TV show runs from 2004.
4. Farscape

My name is John Crichton, an astronaut. A radiation wave hit and I got shot through a wormhole. Now I'm lost in some distant part of the universe on a ship, a living ship, full of strange alien life forms. Help me. Listen, please. Is anybody out there who can hear me? I'm being hunted ... by an insane military commander. I'm doing everything I can. I'm just looking for a way home.
Produced in Australia 1999 - 2003 - the sets, costumes, living ship Moya, FX and stars Claudia Black and Ben Browder are all absolutely stunning.

5. Firefly
FIREFLY
Firefly is a Sci-fi western that never really took off, despite a pretty healthy budget and the input of Buffy creator Joss Whedon.
Four centuries from now a violent civil war results in the formation of the Union of Planets. Firefly heroes don't care for the new deal and zoom around in the Firefly-class ship Serenity expressing their displeasure.
Firefly TV show was cancelled after 14th episode. This is still one of the best Sci Fi TV shows i have seen.
Firefly was aired in 2002 and fans still hope this show will be completed one day.
6. Babylon 5
BABYLON 5
Babylon 5 is an epic American science fiction television series created, produced, and largely written by J. Michael Straczynski.
Babylon 5 is a center of political intrigue and conflict, eventually becoming the lynchpin of a massive interstellar conflict. This is reflected in the opening monologue of each episode, which includes the words "last, best hope for peace" in Season One, but changes to "last, best hope for victory" by Season Three.
B5 was able to build a surprisingly healthy and enduring fan base. In a UN-style setting, an Earth alliance is trying to prevent another war like the one recently fought with the Minbari. Terrific character development throughout set to a backdrop of action-packed space operatic fare.

7. Doctor Who
DOCTOR WHO
Doctor Who is a original British science fiction television show full of weird British humor:) produced by the BBC.
Doctor Who shows the adventures of a mysterious time-traveller known as "the Doctor", who explores time and space in his TARDIS timeship with his companions, solving problems and righting wrongs.
Doctor Who is listed in the Guinness World Records as the longest-running science fiction television series in the world and is also a significant part of British popular culture.
694 serial episodes 1963 - 89. Really a huge Sci Fi TV show.
8. Heroes
HEROES
Great TV show about a group of people carrying a special gene that gives each of them different special powers.
Heroes episodes follow various storylines related to the main characters as they are somewhat innocently drawn together in order to avert a cataclysmic disaster set to strike New York City. Of course, there are bad guys with mysterious ulterior motives along the way as well.
Each episode reveals new answers and questions and progresses the story and/or the characters. There is an overall arc of the first season that revolves around stopping an explosion of immense proportions that happens in the future.

9. Star Trek
STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION
Star Trek: The Next Generation set 78 years after TOS, the long-awaited new Trek series featured an ensemble cast - the most popular being the android Data, Klingon bridge officer Worf and Enterprise-D captain Jean-Luc Picard. After a shaky start less popular characters generally got better, except Wesley Crusher who copped a nasty dose of writer revenge.
The episodes follow the adventures of the crew of the Galaxy-class USS Enterprise. As the United Federation of Planets flagship, the Enterprise is designed for both exploration and diplomacy but capable of battle when necessary.
Dramatic devices such as time travel or temporal loops, natural disasters, and other internal and external conflicts often occur without alien encounters, though these, too, are used to explore issues of humanity.
Star Trek: The Next Generation has 176 episodes aired between 1987 - 1994
10. X-Files
THE X-FILES
The truth is out there… Cult TV show.
FBI agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) are tasked with investigating the "X-Files," marginalized cases often involving paranormal phenomena.
Mulder plays the role of the believer, having faith in the existence of aliens and the paranormal, while Scully is a skeptic.
1993 - 2002, 202 episodes + movies. An essential cult show of every Sci Fi fan.
